Travel Insurance

For most people, a vacation is their third largest investment after a home and car. You don’t question the need for homeowner’s and auto insurance, so why do you think you don’t need travel insurance? You may want to take another look.

Here are our top 7 scenarios you may want to consider when purchasing your Travel Insurance policy. Check out some of the websites below for additional scenarios and considerations.

IMPORTANT NOTE ON TRAVEL INSURANCE: Make sure to find the kind of events you want your policy to cover and do your homework! Not all plans and policies will cover all scenarios listed below. Do your research and ask questions!

SCENARIO #1

Trip Cancellation

The number one reason is cancellation for unforeseen circumstances– Don’t lose your money for this reason. No one expects that last minute illness, injury or death of a family member and all deposits and payments for On The Blue Cruise are non-refundable and non-transferable. Protect your travel investment and find a plan that covers you for these types of circumstances!

SCENARIO #2

Medical Coverage

Did you know that your medical insurance coverage does not cover you outside the United States? For those flying Internationally and into the U.S., you may not have coverage either. This means if you have an accident while onboard, you will be billed for the ship’s medical services which can be very expensive. Don’t get caught paying out of pocket! Look for a plan that will cover medical expenses while you are away.

SCENARIO #3

Evacuation Due to Medical Emergency

Imagine that you are halfway through the cruise, become very ill and there isn’t an adequate medical facility nearby. This would mean that you have only one option…to be airlifted to a hospital. This type of evacuation can be financially devastating and can cost upwards of $40k. Don’t take that risk!

SCENARIO #4

Flight Cancellation

Picture this: You are in route for the cruise and you arrive at the airport for your connecting flight, only to find out that your flight has been canceled due to bad weather. Imagine that this delay will cause you to miss the cruise! What do you do? Try looking for a policy that can assist you in getting to the ship or covers not only your flight home, but will also cover not being able to sail with us.

SCENARIO #5

Baggage Loss

You have finally arrived in Miami and are excited about all the events and fun just around the corner. But first, you have to grab your luggage. As the baggage claim empties out you inquire about your bag only to find out that the airline has sent your bag…to CALIFORNIA! Wouldn’t it be nice to be reimbursed for the clothing and toiletries that you have to purchase until you can get it back? Make sure to find an insurance policy that covers this type of incident.

SCENARIO #6

Loss of Passport/Wallet

Today you are in Puerto Plata and anxious to disembark the ship and explore the city. You grab your cruise card and go to look for your passport and wallet, but…they are nowhere to be found. This can be a very nasty surprise for any traveler. Obviously a missing wallet can spell doom on your travel plans and losing that passport can prevent you from getting home. Did you know that Travel Insurance covers this by helping you get a duplicate passport issued or wire you money for emergency funds? Be sure to look into this option in your policy as you and compare plans!

SCENARIO #7

Cancel For Any Reason

Let’s suppose you don’t have a particular reason to cancel but choose to do so. While a pricier option, this is available on some policies, often with specific exclusions. “Cancel For Any Reason” (CFAR) coverage is usually an add-on feature (as a paid upgrade) to a trip insurance policy. CFAR ensures that travelers receive a refund of 50-75% of their insured non-refundable and pre-paid trip costs if they choose to cancel their trip for any reason at all vs. the standard covered reasons under regular trip cancellation coverage which covers 100% of those trip costs.

As you can see, although these scenarios are hypothetical, they can be very real and having the right protection can take an issue from a disaster to an inconvenience.

While not required, it is highly recommended that you purchase travel insurance and we suggest looking at the policies such as Travel Guard or any of the many options below. Policies aren’t as expensive as you may think and will give you piece of mind while traveling.
